Rowley-Smith, Sinead

Sinead Rowley-Smith studied Modern European Languages at the University of Liverpool and holds a degree in German, Spanish and Italian. Studying a range of different languages and cultures opened her eyes to the world of literature and she has a particular interest in reading Italian Giallo novels and Hispanic literature.

As part of her degree Sinead spent time abroad and studied the History of Cinema and Classic Italian Literature at the Università degli Studi di Firenze. She then went on to work as an English language teacher in Austria. After graduating she moved to Spain to continue her work as a teacher and finally made Seville her home three years ago.

Sinead has always had a passion for translation and was able to realise her dreams of becoming a translator when she moved to Spain. She is currently studying a Master’s Degree specialising in Medical Translation in Seville and has been combining her studies with freelance translation and her work as an English teacher. Her translation experience has been quite varied so far; she has translated a wide range of texts of both a technical and creative nature, as well as having experience in subtitling and web localisation.

Sinead is currently embarking on a new phase in her professional life. She is able to utilise her knowledge of the complexity of the English language gained through her career as an English teacher together with her profound understanding of Spanish culture to realise her translations. She hopes to establish herself as a successful freelance translator in the near future.
